Bride shares emotional ‘first look’ with her little brother and both their reactions are pure Majic!
Wedding photos are supposed to last a lifetime, as are the memories that go along with them.
But one bride wanted to make a different kind of Majical memory on her special day, so she added a ‘first look’ to the itinerary that was quite the unique request.
It wasn’t anywhere close to the typical first look between a bride and groom, and that’s exactly what made it such a powerful moment. In fact, this first look didn’t include the groom at all.
When Ashley Rice was planning her wedding to Brian Sedar, she was “intrigued” by first-look photos, she told Good Morning America in an interview.
But the surprise came when she indicated that she didn’t want to do them with her soon-to-be husband.
“I had always imagined us seeing each other as I walked down the aisle. I was chatting with a friend at work about what I should do, and she instantly said, ‘Well you obviously need to do one with your brother,’ and it just clicked,” she said.
Her little brother, Nick, has Down syndrome and is Rice’s “best friend,” she told GMA.
“My relationship with Nick is a beautiful one, but also a normal one. I’m his biggest supporter and we love each other fiercely. But, he is still my little brother and we do normal things that brothers and sisters do. We bicker and we annoy each other. We frustrate each other at times, and then the next day they are forgotten, and we’re back to normal, and that’s normal. At least it is for us,” she said.
The newlywed, now Ashley Sedar, said that her little brother’s reaction was “speechless” at first, but she said he recovered quickly and embraced the moment with complete happiness.
And the moment couldn’t have been any more special – it was perfect!
Ashley, recalling the Majical moment said, “He said, ‘You are the most indescribable person in the world. I can’t even describe it.’ It was very sweet and we were both in tears. I’ll never forget it.”
Growing up in a household where you have a little brother who has a disability is “something I wouldn’t change for the world,” Ashley told GMA.
Photographer, Kelsey Gene, was able to perfectly capture the emotion in each moment – giving the bride and her little brother a memory they will treasure forever.
Kelsey then posted the photos to Facebook where they have been shared thousands of times from Kelsey Gene Photography’s Facebook page.
“Little did I know that this first look would turn out to be one of the sweetest things I have ever witnessed, in my entire career as a photographer,” Gene told GMA.
“There was not a dry eye in room,” She added.
For your wedding day, be sure to follow your heart, because your ideas are what will make your special day, well, special.
Which reminds us of a quote we’d like to end this story with:
“Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.”
