The Magic of Always Surrounding Yourself With Positive People

There is a saying that you can judge a person by the company they keep. There are many forms of this adage and it often refers to not falling into bad company. People that are “bad” in a way that’s overt such as lying, stealing or breaking the law. But there are many ways to be a part of the wrong crowd. You have to ask yourself: Are the people I surround myself with motivated? Are they putting the same energy into our relationship as I am? Are they trying to better themselves and be the best person they can be? All of these questions will help you discover if you’re truly surrounding yourself with the best people you can.

A common trap to fall into when trying to surround yourself with good people is the trap of history. A lot of times we keep people around because of shared history and all the memories we have with them. However, when you step back and take a look at the relationship, you might find you and your friend have grown apart. You dwell on what has happened and not what’s currently going on in your life. Take a look at what that person brings to your relationship now and ask yourself if it’s positive.

Another common situation to examine is a relationship where someone is content staying in the same spot and never improving anything in their life. Their routine is the exact same week in and week out. They never try to improve any facet of their lives. These types of people can be very demotivational and make people content with stagnation.

One final example of people to watch out for is those who are falsely positive. They are people that are chock-full of cliches and adages but don’t actually live by the credos they espouse. They are quick to give advice and slow to follow. These people tend to lead down the wrong path. Ask yourself if they truly practice what they preach.

The above are only a few of the ways you can examine your relationships and surround yourself with the right people. The ultimate question you need to ask yourself is are these people helping you to be the best possible version of yourself? If they are supportive of your dreams, giving of their time and driven to improve their life, you have all the answers you need.
